Sirens and Santas!

Christmas is properly under way now! The decorations are up, the music is on and the Café are doing an amazing range of festive hot chocolates – pop in and ask hot drink superstar Hannah for details. We’re also getting very excited about our special visitor…SANTA IS COMING! He’ll be here on 18th December 3pm-7pm. It’s £3 per child and they get a special Christmas cookie from Mad Hatters.

We were delighted to welcome back The Siren Sisters last week with their Christmas show. The audiences loved it, as usual. It was especially nice to see a group from Stephenson Court in Cardiff – they made the news recently when a burglar stole their Christmas party fund. We read their story and were all very moved, so we offered them free tickets to the show. It was great to see them here enjoying themselves after their unpleasant experience.

We were equally delighted to welcome the Explosive Light Orchestra on Saturday. They played a top-notch gig to a very appreciative crowd.

This week we have a new comedy drama from Susan Kingman, I’ll Be There, Now… on Thursday and Friday. Then on Saturday and Sunday hot new Merthyr band Pretty Vicious are playing their first ever gigs right here. Susan developed I’ll Be There, Now… after writing it as a short audition piece for Michael Sheen. He was so impressed that he encouraged her to develop it into a play. Three years later here she is with I’ll Be There, Now… which is set in a rugby club and looks at the idea of home, what we gain when we leave and also when we come back. Tickets are on sale now for both shows. New band Pretty Vicious are making quite a name for themselves already. They’re on the Radio 1 playlist and hotly tipped to go far. We can’t wait to host their first gigs this weekend, which are selling out fast!

Are you looking for an extra special Christmas present? The photographs from our current Walter Waygood exhibition are available to buy as prints – ring us on 01685 384111 or pop in to place your order.

Hope you’re enjoying the festive season – and if anyone gets an engagement ring this Christmas remember that our whole building is licensed for wedding and civil ceremonies. And you can have your reception here too!
